Founder and Lead Instructor
Julie Ann Travis is a ceramic artist, educator, and healing arts practitioner whose work has been shaped by more than 20 years of making, teaching, and earth-based practice. She holds both a BFA and MFA in Ceramics, and her path has moved between ceramics, education, sculpture, community arts, and holistic healing.
Alongside her studio practice, Julie has trained in Classical Taoist stone medicine and is a full mesa carrier in the Q'ero lineage of the high Andes. These traditions have deepened her understanding of working with the earth as something relational, an experience rooted in attention, connection, and care.
Stoneflower is the place where these threads come together.
Created from a long-held dream, Stoneflower is Julie's offering to the Santa Fe community: a place to work with our hands, learn real ceramic skills, create beauty, and experience the connection that grows when people gather around a shared table.
As a mother, maker, teacher, and steward of life, Julie created Stoneflower with the belief that working with clay can give us something increasingly rare, a reason to slow down, be present, and remember our relationship to the earth and to one another.
Looking ahead, in the spring of 2027 Julie plans to expand Stoneflower's offerings to include 1:1 Sensory-Motor Clay Field Sessions, drawing on her background in holistic healing and earth-based practice to work particularly with children who have experienced trauma or who have sensory needs.
Autumn Class Schedule
Forming Community Through Clay
Class sizes run approximately 6–12 students. All classes are hand-building only, coil, pinch, and slab construction.
Soft Launch: November 16 – December 11, 2026
Our soft launch offers a first taste of four core classes ahead of our full spring semester. Scroll to bottom to see more offerings.
Piñon 1 Foundation of the Earth
Ages 5–8
Piñon 1 is Stoneflower's foundation class for young hands, where kids build real ceramic skills. Each session introduces coil, pinch, and slab construction, proper tool use, and respectful care for materials and studio space, building focus, patience, and confidence along the way.
Tuesdays, 4:00–5:15 PM · 4-class session
Piñon 2 Foundation of the Earth
Ages 9–12
Piñon 2 is Stoneflower's foundation class for older kids, building real ceramic skills from the ground up. Each session introduces coil, pinch, and slab construction, proper tool use, and respectful care for materials and studio space, with projects paced for a slightly more independent, focused approach than our younger Piñon 1 group, building focus, patience, and confidence along the way.
Thursdays, 4:00–5:15 PM · 4-class session
Aspen Homeschool Class
Ages 5–12
A hands-on, earth-connected class designed for homeschool families looking for real sensory learning away from a screen. Students build foundational hand-building skills alongside peers in a relaxed, community-oriented setting. If there's enough interest, an older homeschool age group will be added down the line.
Tuesdays, 10:00 AM–11:15 AM · 4-class session
Sage Class
Stoneflower's class for elders, offering a grounded, embodied creative practice and a community built around working with the hands. No prior ceramics experience needed.
Wednesdays, 10:00 AM–12:00 · 4-class session
Willow Mom and Tot Class (2-4yrs)
Willow is a gentle, sensory-rich class for toddlers and the grown-up who brings them. There's no pressure to make anything in particular here, just clay in small hands, textures to explore, and time together. It's a class built around connection as much as creativity, a shared hour for parent and child. This 4-week session is part of Stoneflower's soft launch, a taste of Willow before our full 12-week semester this spring. Includes all clay and materials.
Fridays, 10am-11am · 4-class session
Coming Spring 2027
More ways to work with clay are coming to Stoneflower.
Alongside our children’s, homeschool, and Sage classes, spring will bring expanded offerings for teens and adults, as well as individualized clay experiences for children.
Teen Clay Classes
A dedicated space for teens to deepen their ceramic skills, develop their own ideas, and find their individual voice through clay.
Seasonal Adult Workshops
Small, thoughtful workshops offered throughout the seasons, a chance to slow down, work with your hands, learn something new, and gather around the table.
1:1 Sensory Clay Field Sessions for Children
Individual sessions offering children a different way of experiencing clay. Working directly with a field of clay and water, children are invited to explore through touch, movement, pressure, rhythm, and imagination. Rather than focusing on a finished ceramic object, these sessions center the experience of working with the material itself.
